Sherry and Geo two Casualities of the March 2009

Geo TV is the most popular channel in Pakistan. It has become a victim of its own viewership. It is an example of sensationalist and biased story coverage anti government .Always promoting and highlighting the negatives and wrong doings of the government. It is good but than healthy criticism provides answers, solutions and balanced view which is so absent. Its hosts and anchor persons show personal vengeance against the people in government. While a true journalist never shows his personal likes or dislikes .Journalism is a job best done without any emotions?
The press in Pakistan over all has appreciated Sherry’s resignation. I think it was un-necessary. First she herself was a journalist and representative of PPP spirit. She was a woman at a very important position.Zaradri did her huge favour when she had a huge personal feud with Shahid Masood. To abandon PPP and Zardari when they needed her most raises a lot of questions.
I think it is a personal failure at many levels.
I presume she knew before hand that this March will take place and how Nawaz and Co will go ahead and what to expect of Geo news. Did she send any reminders? Did she hold any PR campaign? Did she assure the March participants and the covering media the concerns of government? If there is a gross miss-conduct on behalf of Geo she should have filed a case against them.
This would have ensured two massive pillars Judiciary and media to deliver to freedom of speech.
It would have set examples fro the rest.
Journalist community has appreciated her stand because they are ever so afraid and threatened by all governments .The plugs can be pulled off at any time.
Geo definitely needs to look at its policies and should be thankful to the Pakistan Governments that they have not taken them to courts. The sooner it is done the better in the interest of public and the profession of Journalism.
Well Sherry no room for emotions neither in politics, nor in Journalism .With your departure what ethics did you introduce to the Pakistan Journalism and what service did you provide to PPP?
Well! The March itself raises the same questions, what is it going to achieve? What are the aims of March? I hope all the Marchers will get to home in one piece and reflect over what was the March about? What change were they expecting? What was the aim? What were the goals? What were they pursuing.
Mr.Nawaz this is the last March after this people will loose all hope in change .Are you ready for that.? Army would not intervene
and so called elite politicians will die their own death.

and her off shoot media Geo !!
    the worst anti-Pakistan
    the worst anti-Islam
    the worst anti-Nazaria-e-Pakistan

the best friend and promotor of Indian hegemony,
the best interest stake holders in US Neocon policies toward
    Pakistan.
The protagonists of anti-Pakistani culture, language, customs and
charater. THIS IS GEO patronized by PPP and doomed to a shameful
    consequences very soon !!!!!

When i first heard of Sherry resigning i thought it will be taken back, glad it wasnt for two reasons.Sick of her face and her voice, and secondly at least someone let go of their job for the right reasons.

As for Geo over rated, and they blow their own trumpet more then anything else, there are better news channels with better hosts and shows then Geo.And i am sure we all have heard how Geo has blackmailed business owners,OK no proof but no smoke without fire and all that.

    Just my two cents

geo did a great job.its all matter of perspective.i have a different perspective of looking things and i believe that i am right. rafay has a different perspective and he is just right what he said about geo. farrah your perspective is also different and its also right.
how can we all be right at the same time?
may be it is not the matter of right and wrong.
i think some things should be looked beyond our standards and criteria.

i believe geo and sherry rehman did a great job.if you disagree,i don’t have a problem with that.

You sound a bit hesitant to criticise.Oh I am so glad actually bloody glad, that despite differences ,people have come out and expressed themselves.
So yes we are all correct. What ever our openions are ,what ever our political party is but the Nation stood for political correctness.
    Democracy has come to Pakistan.

  6. dr.jawwadkhan said

yes i always feel hesitant to criticise except when it comes to islam and pakistan.i believe that with out any bitterness we can differ each other on any aspect except the pakistan and its ideology.
also i feel happy that we started to feel that democracy and justice is our birth right Its our right to select our rulers not the right of commandar inchief. and it is our birth right to get the easy justice.
that is why i felt restlessness about this article.

@ My difference with Sherry were and are still,
    her party
    its policies,
    her responsibilities vis-a-vis the nation,
I am certainly not capable to judge other’s piety and belief,
but would never ever compromise on my religion and my motherland.

Sherry is a talented Lady, her capacities have never been valued,
was always underestimated by the donkeys of her party, there is not
one Rehman Malik, there are atleast 29 similar janwars in that party
    called PPP.
Her strong civic sense had always surprised me, but she was with
the wrong people of a wrong party from Day one !
PPP is a rotten ” camembert ” cheese, stinks from 3 km.

I think, the penguins are more loyal, intelligent, and respectable than
    those brutes of PPP.

I have no issues with people have a diff opinion to me and i welcome them.

I just feel and after having read the above comments ke we might be jumping the gun about democracy and a free judiciary, yes things have become better i guess but i am not expecting any thing specially from this Govt and it might end up being more of the same for some time to come.

But i do hope that people of Pakistan have realized that we do have the power to cause a change, and that if we stand together and make noise we will be counted and those in power will listen.

    dear alta1
no body is expecting a radical change over nights after restoration of judiciary. yes of course it will give some relief to the people of pakistan.
but people like me are just happy because the first time in history, the pakistani masses recognized the importance of free and independent judiciary and people fought very well for this issue.
we are happy because it is sign of new begining. we just learn,t to stand on our own feet. we have to start walking, and have to travel a lot.there is lot more to do.
i hope nothing will be able to deviate from this path. and this atmosphere and this passion will never be subsided(inshaAllah). we should pray for that

    Hi Alta
I have the same views,I have no trust in Nawaz ,he needed to protest when his government was dismissed. He has no credibility as a leader in my eyes.
To restore one Chief Justice he had to mobilise the whole country, twice Prime Minister should be able to do it from his drawing room.
Also I have reservations against a Chief Justice who is so political.
Nothing on the personal level though.Let us see how the drama unfolds.I believe it has just started. The soap opera of GRAND Nawaz.Until he is Ameer Ul Mumeneen he wouldnot sit in peace.
Again the battle between PPP and Nawaz is high .What has changed? The same horse trading .
    They are power mongering people.

    Dr Jawwad
I try not to be biased but I truely see a very democratic and dynamic person in Musharraf .He has brought sense of National pride and belonging back to Pakistan.
Yes ,he has made some mistakes as well BUT It is a reality people do support him.
Do not get discomfertable. We are putting up with PPP and Nawaz for so long.
I am glad that Nation marched and Zardari had to cave in but in my understanding this March and spirit of expression has been introduced into the society by Musharraf during his rule.
I am glad to see this expression of freedom in society. It will be apt to say that since Zia took over this is the first major expression of our Nation.

  12. Rafay Kashmiri said

    @ today, to have Nawaz ” Amir-al-momenin ” or Zia -Al-Haq ”

is far better than pure “Amir-al-munafiqoon or Zardari,

    and all those Amir-ul-Muraqiboons and

    Amir-ul-Mirassioons of media !!

Atleast they were right when chanting

    ” mard-e-Haq, Zia-ul-Haq !! what difference !!

  13. Democracy in Pakistan means perhaps giving countryto the dogs.

  14. Rafay Kashmiri said

@ Mao, was’nt he wrong saying religion is an opium ?

I am sure it was wrongly reported ! or a mistake, perhaps,
    CIA’s tricky manipulations,

In reality, He was alluding at Democracy, for sure !! atleast in Pakistan.
Even Salman Taseer will agree woth me.
